(CHRISPINE.ORG) - With full phasers set on kill, Star Trek blew away box office estimates raking in a projected $76.5 million its opening weekend. The number exceeded Paramount Pictures's low balled expectations of $50 million and industry analyst estimates of $60 million. Wolverine took second place at $27 million, taking a steep drop of 68%.
Chris Pine's first major feature film was assisted by early rave reviews at pre-screenings and Paramount's huge media blitz over the Internet by providing webmasters with a barage of promotional material.
